Making wood furniture green
Jotun has created Ultra Lite, a new way to protect the beauty of natural wood furniture without harmful VOCs.
We all love the look and feel of natural wood furniture. But how does it impact the environment?
Natural woods such as oak, beech and birch have always been a popular choice for furniture designers. But as more information becomes available about the potential harmful environmental impacts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), many designers are looking for alternatives to traditional wood preservatives.
A green alternative
Applicators and manufacturers traditionally use clear liquid paints and varnishes to preserve natural wood furniture. While effective, some of these varnishes contain solvents, which can represent an environmental risk. That’s why Jotun has created Ultra Lite, a new way to protect the beauty of natural wood furniture without the harmful VOCs.
Unlike liquid varnishes, powder coatings do not contain solvents. Usually, powder coatings are applied to metal substrates or engineered wood, like medium or high-density fibreboard. What makes Ultra Lite special is that it protects and brings out the beauty of natural wood, without any risk to the environment.
A win-win for all
Furniture designers will appreciate that Ultra Lite gives them the freedom to flex their imagination, while manufacturers will value the fact that Ultra Lite is a cost-effective, one-coat, odour-free, solvent-free solution. Jotun also see that there is growing consumer demand for products that contribute to a more sustainable environment. As a coatings company, Jotun takes pride in doing our part in making the world a better place.
